I would like to say in the beginning that I always put a strong emphasis on Muslim identity in the business world, and how does it connect to what we do in life. In the turn of current events happening around the world, surely many of us have questioned the remoteness of their jobs. With modern technologies being an inseparable aspect of marketing, the fields we are going to discuss with our guest may be a career path you consider choosing. Knowledge of SEO, experience with web analytics, web development, graphic design and digital marketing just to name a few are the essential aspects of this field.
I had a great opportunity to interview brother Sabith Mohammed who's Web Developer and a Digital Marketing Expert. Founder of IT Aspects - which provides Web Designing, Graphic Designing, Mobile Application Services, BPO, Digital Marketing, and advertising services to more than 170+ businesses around the world. His branches are in Australia (Melbourne & Sydney), UK (Harrow), India (Hyderbad) . Also, he's founder ITAspects.com CTO at GoldBitsCoin - which is one of the best performing Crypto Currency on Coin Cap Market, CO-Founder for Indeals.com.au , Co-Founder for Albadrcourses.com and Australian Authorized Dealer for Amazeheaters.com
Q: First of all I would like to know how is your field viewed from the Islamic perspective?
Sabith Mohammed: ITAspects.com is an Information Technology and Digital Marketing Field which is totally compliant with Islamic ruling because we have clear vision\mission stating with do not serve any illicit/immoral businesses which Islam prohibits. Other startups are the same Alhumdulillaah.
Q: Is it a flexible work time?
Sabith Mohammed: Best business to do in terms of flexibility and also for people interested in working from home.
Q: What about your accreditation and education in it?
Sabith Mohammed: Alhumdulillaah I have a double bachelor's degree (Accunting and IT both) IT from Charles Sturt University, Melbourne Campus With over 13+ year experience in Information Technology IT Aspects has Google and multiple technical Certifications.
Q: Is it easy to switch between the fields from a different one to the one you’re in?
Sabith Mohammed: Not easy unless you have minimum training in Digital Marketing, Website Designing. Though the Sales position in our company will be something one can easily get in and start working with minimum knowledge of services we provide.
Q: Are each of your startups in a different field or they are somewhat connected? Sabith Mohammed: All my startup are online Startups which are connected to my core competency.
Q: What’s the most important skill to get into this field?
Sabith Mohammed: One must be passionate about Digital Marketing\Coding and willing to update/upgrade regularly.
Q: Which aspect of your job made you a better Muslim?
Sabith Mohammed: I think the fear before taking any business decision - whether it's compliant with Islamic principles makes me a better Muslim and puts Barakat in my Business.
What does Barakat mean in Islam? Barakat (Arabic: بركات) is an Arabic word meaning blessings.
Q: As CEO, is your job enough remote and flexible for your own needs? How does it affect your Islamic practices like offering daily prayers?
Sabith Mohammed: It's very flexible to offer prayers in fact I have set a rule in office to pray on time and also included 1hr weekly session on Islamic knowledge, where a shaikh comes to teach Hadith's.
Here I would like to comment that I really got amazed by the idea of providing extra education to his own employers about religion. I've known before about workplaces creating an accepting environment and space for religious practices like offering daily prayers, but I've never heard of additional classes provided. Ma Shaa Allah for giving others such opportunities. From the Islamic perspective developing knowledge about our religion is actually an obligation.
Q: In the times of epidemic like now cause by COVID-19, how does it affect your business and your clients? Is there any support provided or alternative?
Sabith Mohammed: Alhamdulilah, Allah (swt) has blessed us with regular work and all my 15+ staff work from Home plus clients haven't withdrawn any services.
This brings back me to the 2nd point.
If you are fearful and implement his deen in what you do, you will be taken care, even after that you have problems, you are being tested and this should bring you more close to Allah (swt).
With Staff: Alternatively, if things don't go too well, I am planning to support our staff and don't layoff until things are back to normal (we want to stretch as much as we can to retain our team and have an emergency fund in the company which will be utilized In Shaa Allah).
Q: Everybody start somewhere, what would you advise for someone who’s emerging in this field?
Sabith Mohammed: Concentrate on few handful clients initially and give them quality service by putting yourself in there shoes as a business, this will be the best marketing or brand building for any business (market their responses to gain more customers).
Q: Is your job at risk of automation in the future?
Sabith Mohammed: We are working with emerging technologies and we have completed a couple of very big projects (end to end) in BlockChain technology and chat automation.
We want to be there before it tries to hit us in any shape or form.
Q: What skill/strategy from your job are you able to apply to your personal/family life?
Sabith Mohammed: Doing things in a organized fashion. Maintaining balance etc.
Q: With provided sources nowadays online and a range of courses, is it possible to be a self-taught expert in IT and marketing?
Sabith Mohammed: Yes it is possible to be self-taught but you would still need experience with different scenarios with different businesses/industries to gain expertise.
Q: What’s the factor which will make you stand out in this profession?
Sabith Mohammed: Right advise (even though chances are that you will miss adding a client in to your account)
Take the blame on myself when things go wrong and give credit to my team when client appreciate our work.
Take care of people who work for ITAspects.com (believe me, not everyone is looking for pay rise).
Q: Do you need a big start-up budget to achieve success or are there more important aspects?
Sabith Mohammed: Doesn't require a big budget at all, but a decent budget with right stratergies added with patience can do wonders In sha Allah
Q: Do you think the Islamic principles and ethics in business are becoming more known to people from Non-Islamic background? What to do to improve it?
Sabith Mohammed: With this, I would like to say, yes, people are getting to know more about Islamic principles.
What can we do to improve it:
1. Muslim Education Industry should embed in our education system to wear our religion on our sleeves and be proud of the ethics we follow (which is the solution for humanity), and educate our children to counter false propaganda from a very small age.
2. More Muslim Businesses\Entrepreneurs should maintain a high moral compass and walk the talk which will then send a positive message about the values system we follow for life.
3. Digital Entrepreneurs like us should have a correct understanding of Islam and have a Muslim Online army to counter fake news/propaganda about Islam.
4. We should be more inclusive with other religions and become volunteers for social causes for the country we are living.
To the solutions mentioned brother Sabith Mohammed above, I would like to add the idea of courses. Courses which would be strictly about Islamic Business Ethics, Islamic Finance etc. and more accessible for non-muslim business professionals. This knowledge till now it's pretty exclusive and only known for Muslims, not conducted in workplaces as obligatory workshops. And actually, they do exist but aren't as popular.
